The Indonesian Department ofTransportation said it has narroweddown plans to concentrate on sevenkey airports for freight and passengergateways in Indonesia. These airportshave met the criteria for developmentin the next 20 years, the DOT said.
The airports include Kuala Namu inNorth Sumatera, Hang Nadim in Riau,Soekarno Hatta, Juanda in Surabaya,Ngurah Rai in Bali, Sepinggan in EastKalimantan and South Sulawesi’s HasanuddinAirport.
"These airports have the potentialto be developed into cargo and passengerhubs," the chairman of DOT’sresearch and development board,Denny Siahaan said, adding thatcargo and passenger volumes via theseairports had increased significantly inthe last several years, while businessaround the airports had also pickedup.
