Airports of Thailand, the operatorof the US$4.1 billion Bangkok airportthat was opened four months ago, saidthe taxiway of its airport in the capitalis cracked and needs repairing.

The cracks don’t affect the safety offlight operations at the Suvarnabhumiinternational airport here, ChotisakAsapaviriya, Airports of Thailand’spresident, said, while denying a newspaperreport that said cracks were foundon the runway.

"We found no damage to the runway. We have been urgently repairing the taxiway," Chotisak said, addingthat: "A crack at the runway would be a big problem because of the safety concern."

Cracks at the Suvarnabhumi Airportcover several thousand square metresof the taxiway and part of the runway,Prapan Koonmee, chairman of theNational Legislative Assembly’s airportsubcommittee, said. He recently visitedthe airport to inspect the cracks.
