India’s civil aviation ministry is finalisinga policy for development of airportsexclusively for cargo operations.
Official sources told Economic Timesthe development of such exclusiveairports will attract substantial privateinvestment in the cargo segment.
The civil aviation ministry has startedidentifying the requirements of differentsectors – ranging from those tradingin perishable goods to consumerdurables – to help formulate the policy,sources added.
While Nagpur is being developedas a cargo hub, the government nowplans to build cargo airports at mainlocations or business centres. The moveis significant since several private companies,including Reliance and the Tatagroup, have recently shown interest instarting dedicated air cargo services.
