LIQOUR THREAT – The US TransportationSecurity Administration(TSA) says it collected more than 9tonnes of oversized bottled items atMiami airport – mostly alcohol andperfume – from October throughJanuary.
Hundreds of airline passengers eachweek returning from Caribbean vacationsare trying to go through Miami’s security checkpoints carrying bottlesof alcohol only to be told their spiritsthreaten security.
The problem stems from a TSApolicy that limits passengers to carryingonly small bottles of liquids inaircraft cabins, after British terroriststried to blow up US-bound jets withliquid explosives.
It reminds us of a recent trip to Amsterdam, where, on arrival at 06.00am, ateam of female security staff was handingout small plastic bags to stuff in theforbidden and presumably dangeroustoothpaste, mouthwash and shavingcream. Oh, the joy of travelling!
