Want to avoid Heathrow?
Reading Bellyache, I noted the articles on BA and LHR.
Living in London’s Docklands, I realised some years ago that flying out of London City (LCY) via Amsterdam is an excellent alternative. I have connected with EVA Air for Taipei while my partner has booked with KLM from LCY to Birmingham Alabama via Schiphol and Chicago.
KLM doesn’t tend to push LCY for intercontinental connections and neither do travel agents but it’s great. You can check in 30 minutes before the flight so can be in Amsterdam before you’d have left LHR. Exiting LCY is just as quick. Yes, it can cost a little more but the lower overland transport cost into London can offset this.
With EVA, although there is a direct flight from Taipei to LHR, flying via Amsterdam or Paris into LCY means you can take a late evening flight rather than the 09.00 LHR flight, thus saving a day and a hotel bill.
