Lhasa recorded a million plus passenger throughput in the year 2006. Recently released statistics in the CAAC annual report, showed a 21 per cent increase in passenger fl ow over 2005, and a 45 per cent hike in cargo/mail tonnage.
From various Chinese cities, six domestic airlines fly into Lhasa’s Gongga (LXA) airport, one of the highest in the world, at an altitude of 3657 meters. Air China also provides a connection from Kathmandu in neighbouring Nepal.
