Singapore’s ground breaking Formula One (F1) night race saw the premier racing event’s official logistics provider in action, transporting nearly 272 tonnes of airfreight on three B747s. Each F1 race sees the specialised DHL F1 team of 9-15 people for overseas races and 10-20 people for European races, swing into action.
The team ensures the smooth delivery of cars, fuel, spare engines and equipment, television equipment and even espresso makers and champagne between race venues which can be held as close as one week apart.
A typical cargo includes 22 race cars, 11 training and replacement cars and 44 engines. DHL also has an Extra Services Team standing by to meet the special requirements of the teams, organisers and sponsors.
Deliveries to and from the track can be made within 24 hours by express flights. An on-board courier accompanies any urgent package throughout the journey, expedites clearance through customs and even takes it by helicopter directly to the paddock if required.
