The airport attributed the increase in scheduled freight to a number of factors, including: routes operated between Africa and Europe by Avient, the introduction by DHL from March 2008 of 16 weekly aircraft movements, as well services operated by Aigle Azur to Hassi Messaoud, in Algeria and Ceiba Cargo to Equatorial Guinea, each with one to two weekly frequencies.
The total number of movements increased by 45.8 per cent year-on-year with the business aviation segment specifically, recording growth of 32.5 per cent. The main feature of pilot training flights was the A380 which made regular visits throughout the year.
Infrastructure development in 2008 saw a major extension to aircraft parking, the surface area doubling from 45,000m2 to 90,000m2.
