Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) announced today its tonnage throughput for August 2009 was 43,232 tonnes, down 16 per cent compared with the same month last year.

Export cargo registered 28,945 tonnes, a decline by 18 per cent against same period last year. Import cargo volume for August was 13,815 tonnes, recording a decrease of 13 per cent from last year. Transhipment cargo volume was 472 tonnes, representing a year-onyear growth of 27 per cent.

The cumulative tonnage throughput from January to August 2009 was 304,543 tonnes, representing a yearon- year decrease of 26.1 per cent. Accumulated export cargo volume was 197,166 tonnes, down 29.1 per cent while import cargo volume was 104,017 tonnes, recording a decrease of 20.7 per cent. The total transhipment volume up to August 2009 was 3,360 tonnes, up 16.7 per cent against same period last year.

AAT general manager, Corporate Development, Nelson Lee said: “August performance shows further improvement, however, the market is possibly still in the early stage of stabilisation.”
