All Nippon Airways is seeking to build a profitable Asian cargo business in two years using Naha Airport, with the planned flight operation due to begin Monday night, the company’s president said. The company will rely on the airport’s competitive advantage in the capital of Japan’s southernmost island prefecture of Okinawa stemming from its proximity to Asia, Shinichiro Ito said at a news conference.
ANA’s ‘‘cargo hub’’ service will link Japan’s three international airports in Tokyo and Chiba and Osaka prefectures with those in Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei and Bangkok via Naha Airport. Planes will leave any of the airports late at night for Naha, where their cargo will be loaded onto other aircraft before reaching their destinations by the early morning.
