To assist airlines and other operators that have been adversely affected by the global economic downturn, the Hong Kong Airport Authority offered a relief package amounting to $450 million (US$58 million) in April 2009. By the end of September 2009, a reduction of $120 million landing and parking charges have been provided to airlines.
