Etihad Crystal Cargo will be the first carrier to fly the new freighter version of the Airbus A330-200. The launch customer was to be India-based cargo start-up, Flyington Freighters, who had placed an order for a dozen of the aircraft. Etihad has three of the aircraft on order and will receive its first aircraft in mid-2010. To date, Airbus has booked orders for 69 planes from 10 customers. Turkish Airlines recently signed a memorandum of understanding for two A300-200Fs. Airbus expects the global market for air freighters to grow 5.2 per cent on average over the next 20 years, amounting to a total of 3,400 aircraft, nearly half of which are expected to be mid-sized jets like the A330-200F.
