Israel Aircraft Industries’ Bedek Aviation Group has received its supplemental type certificate for the 60-tonne payload, B767-300BDSF (Bedek Special Freighter) aircraft conversions and has delivered its first aircraft to euroAtlantic – a Portugalbased passenger aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance company, with an additional aircraft on order.
The medium-sized freighter market – 50-60 tonnes – is the most promising market currently according to IAI, which is seeing less demand currently for 747- 400 conversions.
The B767-300BDSF conversion programme was developed by Bedek for M&B Conversions of Dublin, Ireland, a joint venture company of Mitsui & Co. of Japan, and IAI/Bedek.
Bedek has also converted three B767- 400 passenger aircraft into freighters for South Korea’s Asiana Airlines with one more due for delivery this year. IAI/ Bedek’s passenger to freighter conversion product line includes also: B737-300, B737-400, B767-200, and B747-400 aircraft.
