GPemco World Air Services (Pemco) has announced the purchase of substantially all of the tooling, equipment, and inventory of ExelTech Canada, one of the largest North American providers of MRO services to the regional airline industry. ExelTech operated hangars in Montreal and Quebec City where it offered comprehensive repair services to operators of Embraer E-Jets and 135/145s, Bombardier CRJ, Q-series, Dash 8, ATR, and Saab regional aircraft. ExelTech commenced reorganisation procedures in early February and discontinued normal operations shortly thereafter, largely due to US-Canadian currency fluctuation onits predominantly US customer business.
Pemco intends to utilise the assets and know-how of ExelTech to expand its US regional aircraft MRO services beyond its current CRJ700 activities. By fall 2010, Pemco will also have expanded into its second large hangar at the Tampa International Airport. The two Tampa hangars and backshops will exceed 320,000 sq ft and accommodate 10-12 narrow or up to 6 wide body lines. In addition to being a convenient on-line location for a majority of North American carriers, advantages of Pemco’s Tampa facility include its large pool of highly skilled aircraft technicians, competitive rates, and proven technical operations performance.
Pemco specialises in all levels of airframe heavy maintenance checks, as well as interior, avionics, structural and cargo modifications. A leading aircraft MRO services provider for a wide variety of aircraft types, its new 757 Combi and Freighter programmes represent its 26th different cargo platform brought tomarket over the past four decades.
