Environment Supplement in August issue
The agenda of air carriers the world over is a crowded one. Aside from the constant pressure to fill belly and maindeck holds with cargo, fill seats with passengers, comply with every-changing security requirements, manage escalating costs, hedge against volatile fuel prices the carriers have in recent years found a new, high visiblity and pressing item on their agenda – the environment. The industry has been, perhaps unfairly, singled out as a major contributor to greenhouse gases, likely because of its high profile nature, but also because it is an industry that is forecast to see substantial and ongoing growth as the wealth and standard of living of millions of people rises year-by-year driving global cargo flows and passenger travel. The carbon footprint improvements in the aviation industry have been substantial over the years thanks to technology and they are ongoing. New technology promises even better carbon footprint reduction and the biggest breakthrough on the horizon is the use of bio-fuels which are now moving rapidly to mass commercial production. These are just some of the issues and trends that will be examined in the upcoming Environment Supplement in the August issue of Payload Asia.
