Los Angeles International Airport
(LAX) saw first quarter cargo volume
grow by 4.8 per cent in March and 4.2
per cent in the first quarter year-on-year,
driven by growth in air mail and general
air freight. The airport’s cargo traffic fell
nearly four per cent last year as importers
increasingly turned to cheaper ocean
shipping.
LAX also served nearly 14.6 million
passengers during the quarter, a 6.5
per cent increase, with the biggest gain
coming from domestic travellers. In
March alone, the number of domestic
passengers was up 6.8 per cent over a year
earlier, while the number of international
passengers grew 4.1 per cent.
