Air Malta announces Philip Micallef as its new chief executive officer. Micallef, who has a wealth of experience in leading complex organisations, was most recently the CEO of the Bermuda Communications Regulatory Authority. In the last 30 years, he has occupied various management positions within many organisations in Malta and overseas, both in the private and public sector.
Commenting on this appointment, Air Malta chairperson, Maria Micallef said, “Philip has all the qualities and experience required to take this company forward and will officially take up the post on 13 October 2014. The Board is also working very hard to have a full management team in place in the coming weeks.”
Philip Micallef said, “I am under no illusions about the challenges that lie ahead but I feel honoured and privileged to have been tasked with such an important role within a company that means so much to me and my country. I feel encouraged by the loyalty and resilience displayed by Air Malta’s employees in recent years.”
Micallef has worked with companies and organisations like Olivetti in Italy, Switzerland and Spain, National Cash Register (NCR) in Libya, France Telecom Equant and Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques (SITA) in France, Management Systems Unit, Malta Enterprise, Melita Cable and Malta Communications Authority in Malta, and lately in setting up the Regulatory Authority in Bermuda.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Malta and an MBA from the University of Warwick.
