Jettainer, a leading service partner for outsourced ULD management, has joined the board of the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) ULD Care. In both expert committees, Michael Popp, director operations at Jettainer, will help working on the further development and standardisation of ULD processes. As a first activity, Jettainer joins the ULD Care conference, which will take place from 31 August to 3 September in Bangkok this year.
Every day, countless pieces of cargo inside containers or on pallets travel the world onboard aircraft. In order to guarantee a safe and efficient air traffic, there are international standards for the handling of ULDs as established in the IATA Regulations Manual. In future, Jettainer will take part in IATA’s designated ULD Panel through Michael Popp, who represents the airlines Lufthansa and Swiss. Jettainer, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Cargo AG, manages around 90.000 ULDs for a total of 18 airlines worldwide.
The organisation ULD Care has developed out of IATA and advocates the efficient and suited handling of ULDs by specially trained staff. In addition, ULD Care manages a control system for ULDs, which allows its members an overview of the movements and demurrage of containers and pallets.
“It is a privilege to be able to directly contribute to the design of worldwide ULD processes. The specification and realization of adequate standards for the professional handling of ULDs holds versatile potential for the increase of efficiency,” says Michael Popp.
