Frankfurt-Hahn Airport was recently abuzz with the excitement of fast cars as preparations for the next round of the World Endurance Championship (FIAWEC) saw 31 racing cars, 3 safety cars, as well as the equipment and supplies for the racing teams of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) carefully prepared for their flights to Austin, Texas.
More than 400 tonnes of freight, loaded onto B747-4Fs distributed over four fl ights, were fl own to the US. Th e vehicles will be needed for the next sixhour endurance race in Texas, which took place in Austin on the 19 September.
“We are looking forward to seeing the cars in action,” said Hahn spokesperson Hanna Koch who added that the transport to the US is a logistical challenge which the airport successfully met together with partners and participants. Th is included the expertise and experience of DHL and VG Cargo.
“Th e use of special trucks for transport by road as well as specifi c rigging, handling and loading techniques and equipment are integral parts of the entire process. From the delivery to loading we work hand in hand and in doing so we ensure that these high value vehicles are moved safely and effi ciently,” added Koch.
