CEVA Logistics has been awarded a major new specialist healthcare logistics contract to provide UK-wide distribution and warehousing to BMI Healthcare. BMI Healthcare operates more than 60 hospitals and other health-related facilities around the UK and is headquartered in London.
The three-year agreement, effective November 2015, was won following a competitive tender against other specialist third-party logistics providers (3PLs). CEVA was selected as the best business partner for Britain’s biggest private healthcare provider as a result of the value it will add to the company’s internal supply chain, CEVA said.
“CEVA’s operational framework for handling the BMI Healthcare business was a key component of our value proposition for this new relationship. We believe our range of services will improve supply chain efficiency, provide operational flexibility and enhance IT integration for the organisation”, says managing director, UK, Ireland and Nordics, Michael O’Donoghue.
The new contract will involve the warehousing of medical devices and consumables, hi-tech storage of pharmaceutical products at 2-8°C, distribution of those products across the UK to BMI’s estate of private hospitals and reverse logistics as required.
CEVA has already implemented its Zero Defect Start-up (ZDS) implementation program on the BMI business to ensure high quality service delivery from day one of the relationship. Moving forward, a range of service KPIs and targets will ensure that CEVA’s service commitments are both monitored and met. Areas covered by the KPIs will include goods inward and out, putaway, inventory accuracy, order accuracy, on-time delivery and cost performance.
