China Southern Airlines has applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for approval to begin new daily service from Guangzhou to Toronto from July 2016, which it intends to operate using B777-300ER aircraft. Toronto will become China Southern’s second destination in Canada and its fifth in North America, following Los Angeles, Vancouver, New York and San Francisco.
A number of other Chinese airlines are planning to expand their networks to Canada this year, including Tianjin Airlines, which is expected to fly Chongqing-Tianjin-Vancouver from June 2016, Xiamen Airlines, which will fly Xiamen-Vancouver from July 2016, and Beijing Capital Airlines, which is planning to launch Hangzhou-Qingdao-Vancouver in November 2016.
