Indonesia’s state enterprise responsible for developing and managing airports in the country – PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) – is planning a cargo development for the new Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java. The proposal calls for cargo facilities with a 10,000 sqm warehouse with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year.
This development, which follows the ongoing investment in the Cargo Village at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, will see AP II partner with PT Bandarudara International Jawa Barat (BIJB) – the current developer of Kertajati Airport.
“We have prepared Rp. 200 billion for the development,” said president director of PT Angkasa Pura II Budi Karya Sumadi, according to local media reports. According to the plan, AP II will form a subsidiary in order to carry out the project.
Sumadi also noted that the cargo development at the Kertajati Airport will be done simultaneously with infrastructure development currently being conducted by the government. The Ministry of Transportation and the West Java Government initiated the development of Kertajati Airport in 2013 with a completion date of 2017.
The Kertajati Airport is built on 1,800 ha of land and the first phase will see one runway with the capacity of 5.6 million passengers per annum. The airport will be further expanded to include two runways of 3,500 x 600 meters and 3,000 x 60 meters so as to be able to accommodate large widebody aircraft.
