DACHSER announced today its expansion into Indonesia, as a result of a joint venture, in which DACHSER is the largest shareholder. The joint venture, PT Dachser Indonesia, offers services ranging from air and sea freight to customs processing. This announcement comes on the heels of DACHSER’s recent expansion into Vietnam and Malaysia in 2012.
“Our presence in Indonesia means that we now have a significant foothold in another Southeast Asian country that is experiencing tremendous growth,” said Thomas Reuter, managing director of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics. “Not only are we extending our service portfolio for intra-Asian transport—especially our cooperation with Singapore—but we are also further connecting the region to our global logistics network.”
The joint venture, headquartered in Jakarta, launched with 25 employees. The venture will be lead by Steven Ryan, who brings more than 20 years of industry experience to PT DACHSER Indonesia. Ryan recently joined DACHSER and will report to the company’s regional management based in Singapore. The company plans to continue growth by adding several more locations in the region in 2014.
The expansion into Indonesia is a significant move for DACHSER as a global logistics player. With more than 240 million inhabitants, Indonesia is one of the largest markets in Southeast Asia, boasting a large shipping volume to the US as well as Singapore, South Korea, Japan.
