Etihad Cargo has launched a weekly freighter service between Abu Dhabi and the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, to support Cambodia’s garment and footwear industry.
The garment industry employs around 10 per cent of the country’s workforce and is critical to the economy of the southeast Asian nation. Worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the economy today, it has recorded double-digit growth for the past several years, driven by robust demand from consumers in Europe and the US.
David Kerr, Senior Vice President, Etihad Cargo, said: “Freight demand on the Asia–Europe trade corridor is among the strongest in the world. With Cambodia being a fast developing export economy, transporting goods and services to the world’s big consumer markets is vital to support the country’s dynamic growth.
“Etihad Cargo is delighted to add Cambodia to our Asian network of freighter and passenger destinations.”
Phnom Penh will be Etihad Cargo’s 15th destination in Asia.
The new service operates Abu Dhabi–Singapore–Phnom Penh–Abu Dhabi on an Airbus A330F with a payload of 64 tonnes.
