“Let’s Unite” – the theme that’s been introduced by the newly appointed Chairman of SLFFA Mr. Jagath Pathirane.
The Sri Lanka Logistics & Freight Forwarders Association (SLFFA) held its 36th Annual General Meeting on the 6th of July 2017 with a large gathering of industry specialist and fellow members of the organization. The chief guest was the chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, who was pleased to convey to the house the development plans of the Ports in Sri Lanka with the ultimate goal being in achieving a Hub status for Sri Lanka.
The outgoing chairperson, Tania Polonnowita Wettimuny welcomed the chief guest and called the meeting to order. In her speech, she thanked the council and the membership for the kind support extended to her during her term of office and wished the incoming chairman and the council all success in their term of office.
The incoming chairman, Jagath Pathirana conveyed his sincere thanks to the members for having entrusted him to carry out the arborous task as chairman of SLFFA. Pathirana has clocked over 23 years in the industry and in his speech, reminisced about the years when he joined the industry as a fresher.
In his speech, he thanked his predecessors for steering the Association, which has without doubt brought about the immense success in achieving the objectives that was envisaged upon throughout the years, and looked forward to their guidance and support in his term of office.
He went on to mention, the numerous Associations that represent the shipping and related industries, having their own objectives and agendas towards resolving the issues that is brought about by their representation. Pathirana took the opportunity to invite these Associations to come together, to create a common forum which would eventuate in the success of all sectors having a common goal that could be formulated through a concerted effort in working together. “Let’s unite” was his theme and invited all parties concerned to make this endeavor a fruitful one.
He assured the members of his commitment to maintain the cordial relationship between the stake holders of the industry and the authorities concerned, in order to resolve the issues of the freight forwarding fraternity which should be the focal point of the origination.
