The International Federation of
Freight Forwarders Association
(FIATA) general meeting was
held the day after the FIATA World
Congress 2017, and saw the election
of its new, geographically diverse
Presidency and Extended Board,
showcasing the global representation
of the association.
Held on October 8th, 2017 in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the general
assembly meeting saw Babar Badat,
Chairman of TRANSHOLD Pte.
Ltd unanimously elected as the new
President of FIATA. TRANSHOLD
Pte. Ltd. is a leading logistics group
in Pakistan.
Badat succeeds China’s Zhao
Huxiang, who will now serve as
immediate past president over the next two years. Robert Voltmann, from
the United States, has been re-elected
as secretary general and Francesco
Parisi from Italy, also the previous immediate past president, was elected
as the treasurer.
The three senior vice president
positions went to Ivan Petrov of
Bulgaria and Basil Pietersen of South
Africa, both of who were re-elected,
and Turgut Erkeskin of Turkey,
who joined the Presidency as a new
member. With these elections the
new Presidency, now comprehensively
represents all the four regions of the
FIATA global constituency.
As newly elected President, Badat
said, “It is a great honour for me to
assume this position. A lot of hard
work has been carried out in the past
few years, keeping in pace of the many
changes in world economics. I will try
my utmost to live up to all the legacies
in the past and move FIATA forward”.
