Hellmann Worldwide Logistics will launch a new tracking tool for air freight shipments in partnership with Bonn-based tech startup BlueBox Systems, a press release revealed.
The full-service provider and its IT partner developed a web-based platform that provides information about their air freight shipments at a glance, regardless of airline, route or type of shipment.
Based on GPS coordinates, SmartAir! provides real-time information about air freight shipments, including stopovers and loading times, as well as performance analysis on individual airlines, routes and airports.

This means shippers and forwarders can optimise supply chain management based on performance reports like which departure airport had the fewest delays or which carriers delivered most reliably.
With the addition of SmartAir!, Hellmann now has a full arsenal for tracking shipments for every mode of transport. Aside from tracking data, these platforms provide extensive information on humidity, temperature, incidence of light, vibration and door opening for a more detailed control of shipments.
“SmartAir! is a real game-changer in the tracking of airfreight shipments, which has not been available on the market in this way before. In times of digitalization and ever smaller time windows for decisions, quickly available real-time data within global supply chains are becoming increasingly important. This will also be of particular relevance in the upcoming distribution of Covid-19 vaccines,” says Henning Pottharst, Product Manager Smart Visibility, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.
