IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries) secured avionic upgrade contracts worth approximately US$50 million for three different aircraft types used by South Korea’s Air Force.

The upgrades, which include converting a used aircraft and retrofitting all or parts of it with new and advanced avionic systems, are set to be carried out in the next two years, according to an Israeli news site.

IAI recently relocated the wing assembly line for the company’s G280 executive jet to South Korea, considered a substantial defense client that procures most of its equipment from US companies and is currently expanding its homegrown development and manufacturing capabilities.

“The recent tenders won in South Korea reflects the Korean Defense Minister’s confidence in IAI’s Aviation Group. The Aviation Group seeks to expand its operations in South Korea, both as a supplier and as a client,” said Yosef ‘Yossi’ Melamed, EVP and general manager of the aviation division.

The Aviation Group consolidates IAI’s manned aircraft operations, civilian and military, under one roof. The Aviation Group is responsible for MRO, jet airplanes, passenger to cargo conversions, avionic assemblies and structures, and aircraft refurbishment.
