A rapid spike in COVID-19 infections in Taiwan saw Dimerco delivering urgent self-test kits from Hong Kong to Taipei in a short time frame.
Dimerco used commercial air freight to transport 165 pallets weighing nearly 50 tonnes from HKG to TPE within just four days, despite the delivery date following the busy Easter holiday in Hong Kong.
Despite a shortage of truck drivers as seen in the industry, the forwarder managed to pick up all 165 pallets from the shipper at origin and transport the freight to HKG.
Dimerco was able to consolidate the cargo into a single flight rather than the usual two to three passenger flights after the partner airline’s headquarters agreed to prioritize the freight.
This allowed the forwarder to avoid the express freight charges generally expected for peak times and achieve significant savings for the customer.
At the destination, Dimerco coordinated the assigned customs clearance and trucking vendors onsite at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to complete the import procedure and enable seamless onward transportation, whilst reporting the status of the freight in real time and maintaining mutual communication throughout.
“Our strong relationship with the airline allowed us to meet our customer’s critical time requirements, deliver significant cost savings for them and reduce the transit risk for this temperature-controlled commodity,” Dimerco’s CSC commented.
Similarly, we were able to leverage our long-established partnership with the trucking company to optimize dispatch,” it added.
