ECS Group’s Australian subsidiary Wexco Group has closed a contract with Teleport, the logistics venture of Capital A, to sell the belly capacity originating from Australia and New Zealand for three airlines under the AirAsia Group.
The airlines include AirAsia X, Thai AirAsia X, and Indonesia AirAsia.
The contract puts Wexco in charge of filling a total of 43 flights per week out of Sydney (SYD), Perth (PER), and Melbourne (MEL), with an average weekly uplift of 120 tonnes.
AirAsia X operates 22 weekly flights with widebody A330-300 aircraft from Sydney (SYD) to Auckland (AKL) and to Kuala Lumpur (KUL). It also connects both Melbourne (MEL) and Perth (PER) to Kuala Lumpur four times a week, with further connections to Taipei (TPE) and Incheon (ICN). Thai AirAsia X runs three weekly services from Melbourne (MEL) to Bangkok (BKK), and four weekly flights on the SYD-BKK route.
The GSSA is confident in capitalizing for both companies, citing the strong movements of perishable cargo, health food supplements, electrical goods, general cargo (consolidations), and mail within the region.
The company said its goal for 2023 is developing year-round perishable shipment flows, whilst increasing its agent and commodity mix throughout the AirAsia network.
