Finnair has purchased 750 tonnes of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ from Neste, reflecting its commitment to reduce carbon emissions.
The airline said the 750-tonne order marked the airline’s largest purchase to date, which corresponds to around 400 flights (if left unblended) between Helsinki and Stockholm. The alternative jet fuel will be delivered by Neste to Helsinki Airport in early 2023.
Finnair, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, aims to be carbon neutral by 2045.
“Sustainable aviation fuel will be one of the most important tools for reducing emissions in the coming years. We also involve our customers in this, and a small part of every flight ticket sold goes to the cost of sustainable aviation fuel,” said Eveliina Huurre, Finnair’s SVP, sustainability.
“Reducing emissions from flying requires an extensive toolkit and everyone’s effort. While we are increasing the use of SAF, we will also continue to take all other steps, from reducing the weight of aircraft to optimizing flight routes and increasing fuel efficiency.”
