Swissport is successfully expanding its presence in pharmaceuticals handling around the world and now operates 21 Swissport Pharma Centers and more than 70 pharma-capable air cargo facilities with the recent certification of two locations.
Swissport’s facilities at Liège Airport (LGG) in Belgium and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) in Canada have achieved the IATA CEIV Pharma certification, marking the company’s 16th and 17th certifications for pharma warehousing. LGG is Swissport’s second CEIV Pharma-certified facility in Belgium after Brussels, whilst YYZ It is also the second certified cargo location in Canada, next to Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) back in 2018.
The new Swissport Pharma Center in Liège is part of a larger air cargo facility covering around 6,000 square metres. It comprises two temperature-controlled storage units which operate at temperature ranges of 2-8° C and 15-25° C. Each cool room has an area of 180 sqm and can hold up to 15 unit load devices. The Toronto facility is part of a 4,825-sqm cargo facility and has two cool rooms operating at ranges of 2-8°C and 15-25°C with each cool room capable of holding up to 40 skids or three PMC pallets.
Swissport said the latest certification in Liege reflects the company’s investments in infrastructure and its operations team, which is expected to complement other established pharma hubs in Europe. In June, the opened a new 400-sqm facility for temperature-controlled cargo at Dublin Airport in Ireland. This followed the renewal of the CEIV Pharma certification at its facility in Barcelona-El Prat Airport in May.
