Hong Kong’s flagship event for logistics and supply chain industry, the Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference or ALMAC, will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 21 and 22 November, next week.
This year’s conference, which bears the theme of “Future-Proofing Supply Chains: Diversification, Decarbonisation and Digitalisation,” will focus on adopting diverse strategies to address global trade changes and uncertainties, promoting carbon reduction, facilitating sustainable development and globally showcasing Hong Kong’s advantages.
The conference is expected to add some momentum to Hong Kong’s proposed measures to strengthen its position as an international maritime and aviation hub and will gather the likes of industry giants CMA CGM, Dell, DHL, FedEx, UPS and JD Logistics, with Fu Xuyin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China, delivering the keynote address on the first day (21 November).
Representatives will cover five thematic areas, which include global trade outlook and supply chain trends, supply chain diversification, connectivity and collaboration driving trade development, sustainability, and innovation and technology. Industry experts will share also insights on accelerating business development through digital transformation.
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), which is co-organizing the event, said three new workshops will debut this year, covering regulatory developments, investment practices and practical techniques for measuring and reporting ESG and circular economy indicators; content strategies, marketing tactics, product distribution, user experience and customer service strategies in e-commerce; and youth empowerment to enhance relevant skills crucial for the industry.
Conference sessions will focus on business opportunities and development in key areas that aligns with Hong Kong’s newly released Action Plan on Modern Logistics Development. The proposal outlines five major directions for Hong Kong’s logistics industry development. These include intelligence, modernisation, greening and sustainability, internationalisation and facilitation.
HKTDC said more than a third (35 percent) of participants were shippers, including well-known brands from various industries like fashion, sports, electronics, e-commerce and retail.
Dr Patrick Lau, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, said: “With the Government’s new Policy Address announcing a number of initiatives to promote Hong Kong’s logistics industry by sea, land and air, and the launch of the Action Plan on Modern Logistics Development, the ALMAC is a timely event to help the industry explore new opportunities and develop co-operation.
