Michael Zach took over the management of ground handling services at Flughafen Wien AG on 1 January 2024 and will now be responsible for all cargo, baggage, and ramp handling as well as aircraft de-icing.
Zach joined the airport in 2006 and has been responsible for sales, finance and cargo within the handling services division since 2018. He is now taking over responsibility for the entire handling department from Franz Spitzer, who is moving into semi-retirement after a career of almost 30 years at the airport.
Zach has been with Flughafen Wien AG since 2006 and has already achieved significant milestones for the company as managing director of the City Airport Train and most recently as managing director of business and general aviation and the VIP Terminal. He will now head the largest division of Flughafen Wien AG with 1,400 employees.
Zach takes over the position from Franz Spitzer, who has been with the group since 1994 and has held various management positions, including head of security and Vienna International Airport Security (VIAS) as well as head of ground service, playing a key role in helping the airport develop into one of the most punctual and reliable hubs in Europe.
