DHL Global Forwarding and airport operator Fraport AG, on 6 February, officially started the construction of a new air freight centre at Frankfurt Airport, which will also house the European headquarters of its subsidiary StarBroker.
The new building, which will take around a year to complete, is part of an expansion at the 55,000-sqm property at CargoCity South, right in the immediate vicinity of Airport Gate 31.
The new facility will provide about 24,500 square metres of new hall space and 3,000 square metre of flexible office and social space.
The new complex will include adequately dimensioned freight yards, 25 truck parking spaces and some 185 car parking spaces. Upon completion, the hall will have a total of 54 gates and cross-docks with driving and shunting areas and separate outdoor parking for trucks.
The property is owned by Fraport AG and leased to DHL Global Forwarding. The forwarder plans to inaugurate the air cargo centre in mid-2025 and will primarily handle air freight and manage charter flights with its in-house service provider StarBroker.
