STARLUX Airlines is set to become the first Taiwanese airline to operate the next-generation A350F widebody freighter with a firm order for five confirmed at the recent Singapore Airshow.
STARLUX operates an all-Airbus passenger fleet, which includes the A350-900, A330neo and A321neo, and the latest order is a clear sign that the airline wants to go big as it delves into the freighter market.
The carrier, which started operations four years ago, is convinced on the energy-savings and carbon reduction benefits of operating the latest freighter, which is considered the only cargo aircraft that can fully meet ICAO’s enhanced CO₂ emissions standards, which will come into effect in 2027.
With a payload of up to 111 tonnes and long-haul capabilities, the widebody cargo aircraft, which will be operated by Starlux Cargo can serve some of the busiest cargo routes into and out of Taiwan.
“STARLUX Airlines has continuously nurtured the cargo market since its inception, capitalising on the strategic advantages offered by Taiwan’s geographical location,” said STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai.
Airbus said its widebody aircraft orders have gained momentum, particularly in Asia-Pacific where there are nearly 900 in-service and 190 to be delivered. At the airshow, STARLUX also announced an order for three more A330neo aircraft, which now has nearly 300 firm orders from 28 customers as of last week, Airbus said. The A350F, which is still under development, has received 50 orders from nine leading cargo airlines so far.
