Dokasch has launched a special unit load device or ULD that is expected to improve the passenger experience for airlines during return trips.
Together with launch partner Condor, who supported the development of the new solution, the German manufacturer has rolled out the new AKE LD3 “Dokasch Cater Cage.”
The customisable design can take up to 12 half-size trolleys (or an equivalent mix of half- and full-size) plus additional catering boxes and oven racks to keep meals and food items fresh and readily available for return flights. Dry goods, pillows, blankets or magazines can all be stowed in the ULD.
“We were able to customize the ULDs to fit Condor’s needs. This allows us to securely and flexibly store trolleys and meal containers, ensuring that our high-quality products and accompanying onboard equipment can be safely unloaded at the destination,” said Nicola Burger, head of catering at Condor.
‘Return catering’ is a process where airlines carry catering for the return trip on the outbound flight, given reasons like food availability or quality at certain locations or seasonal flight schedules and charters at destinations but no catering partner.
