DHL Global Mail, Deutsche Post World Net’s international mail division has opened a new domestic terminal in Singapore.
The new facility, located near Singapore’s Changi Airport is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for printing and fulfillment, with a capacity to handle over five million pieces of mail per month – a four-fold jump over its previous facility. It also complements DHL Global Mail’s existing operations at its Airport Hub terminal which caters to the Southeast Asiaregion, the group said.
The new terminal is the result of Singapore’s moves to liberalise its domestic mail market and is aimed at direct mail, publications, parcels and business mail inboth Singapore and across the region.
“This is a significant milestone for us,” said DHL Global Mail Asia Pacific CEO, Michael Culme-Seymour. “We are confident that DHL Global Mail is now even better positioned to capitalise on the growth of Singapore’s domestic mail market in light of the imminent liberalisation. “The strategic location of Singapore will also enable us to tap the thriving intra-Asia cross border mail business in the region,” he added.
DHL also plans to implement radio frequency identification (RFID) technology across multiple countries in the region, aimed at improving quality control checks for its mail logistics chain.
