Cargo drops level off at LAX Precipitous cargo declines at Los Angeles International Airport have leveled off after four straight months of declines of more than 20 per cent as the airport’s freight operations suffered under collapsing exports out of Asia. February’s 23.1 per cent drop, year-on-year, in tonnage also marks the seventh straight month of double-digit declines at the US’ largest transpacific air cargo gateway. The February figure was however, slightly better than the 24.5 per cent drop in January. Seattle-Tacoma International on the other hand, saw a bit of bright spark on the transpacific with Sea-Tac’s cargo volumes falling 11.5 per cent in February compared to a year earlier. But international freight actually expanded 5.1 per cent, aided by a 41.5 per cent jump in exports. Sea-Tac’s gains were almost entirely a result of expanded service from Taiwanese carriers EVA Air and China Airlines.
