BIFA has received information from a number of members concerning, so called, payment demands from IATA sent by email.

Even more worrying is that the e-mail suffices (domain name) appear to clone the genuine IATA suffix (@iata.org). Fortunately, BIFA has observed that there are still ‘tell-tale’ signs to look out for, for example poor spelling is common, which a recent sample received by a BIFA member demonstrated, as it was from ‘[email protected]’.

There are many variations to this scam and more recent observations appear to demonstrate that the scammers have switched from the usual ‘freight payment demands’ to other aspects, such as a payment demand to prevent an IATA code from expiring.

IATA agency codes do not expire and all such emails should be reported to IATA at [email protected] and then deleted.
