Air Canada is looking to expand its freighter network as its second Boeing 767-300ER freighter flew its maiden flight from Toronto to Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia.

The airline said the new service to Halifax, which it will operate six times each week, will complement its regular freighter service to Latin America.

Meanwhile, the addition of the new freighter aircraft will see Air Canada launch direct services to Europe, including Frankfurt (twice a week), Cologne (once a week), Istanbul (once a week) and Madrid (three times eack week), starting in May.

Airport authorities from Nova Scotia say the new services are expected to increase capacity at Halifax and allow local businesses and industries to reach the global market and ship their products efficiently by air.

The first flight of Air Canada’s second Boeing 767-300ER freighter saw the transport of freight into Halifax. The return trip to Toronto will be loaded with fresh lobster, fish, aerospace parts, and pharmaceutical products, the airline noted.
