Etihad has been busy making key partnerships as the carrier looks to become a go-to airline when it comes to providing reliable cargo services.
The Adu Dhabi based airline recently extended its long-term partnership with Jettainer after it signed a 5-year contract with the ULD supplier.
After comprehensive analysis on the requirements of Etihad and its customers, Jettainer will now equip the airline’s entire ULD fleet with Bluetooth low energy (BLE) tags. This will enable Etihad Cargo to collect and use meaningful data for its business development and further automate processes.
In another collaboration involving sustainability, Etihad has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with B Medical Systems, a Luxembourg-based manufacturer and global distributor of medical refrigeration devices, to develop an airline-specific temperature-controlled solution for the transport of life-saving drugs, vaccines and high-value pharmaceuticals.
Etihad Cargo said it is the first airline to collaborate with a partner in the development and launch of units specifically tailored to air transportation, where in most cases they are fit for multimodal transport.
These temperature-controlled container units, which utilise passive cooling technology, will be able to retain temperatures from -80°C to 25°C for up to five days without requiring an external power source, with load capabilities ranging from two to 1,500 litres.
The reduction in power needed to maintain the needed environment for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipment is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions.
