Heavyweight Air Express – provider of air cargo solutions that range from traditional general sales agency services to diversified niche market products including airport-to-door, air chartering
and space brokerage and wholesale – has announced plans to expand into Latin America following what it said was a detailed and comprehensive evaluation of mainstream and secondary Latin markets.
“We examined each country closely and studied everything from taxation issues to export trends to local customs regulations,” explains Ian Hutchinson, VP for Heavyweight Air Express in The
Americas. “Once it was felt we had a solid grasp on local trading conditions and what to expect, we weighed market growth prospects versus risk and that provided a solid blueprint to work from.”
Heavyweight said it places emphasis on the fact that expansion initiatives are steered by genuine market demand and well defined commercial opportunity; rather than just the desire for pure growth.
“We’ve been doing this long enough to know that moving into a new market with stressed rates, low commissions and just moving the same kilos isn’t really providing anything new to our customers,” Hutchinson emphasises. “We want to engineer fresh opportunity, new growth and find undiscovered earning streams.
We’re absolutely confident that Latin America will provide that for the group and its clients.” First on the list was Sao Paulo Brazil
where the company has set up its own company-owned office and has already met initial success by securing both online scheduled service and part and full charter opportunities. Following Brazil
operations, the group transitioned to Argentina and recently opened its first operations in Buenos Aires. Future plans will see expansion into Chile, Colombia and Central America, but only as the market can support it and the company can control its own product, it said.
