Crane Worldwide Logistics has been awarded IATA’s CEIV certification for transporting lithium-ion batteries, a press release dated 28 April confirmed.

The Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) certification program for lithium-ion transportation undertakes a rigorous certification process to ensure operations, personnel, and facilities adhere to the standards, government regulations, and expert guidelines.

IATA is pushing stakeholders in the air cargo supply chain in a bid to build a network of so-called trade lanes with participants certified at origin, destination and in transit points, according to Brendan Sullivan, Global Head of Cargo.

The transportation and storage of lithium-Ion batteries, including components and products that contain such (like automobiles), require strict safety protocols to ensure the correct handling, packaging, and transportation methods. Crane Worldwide said the certification has initially been awarded to key locations in Asia and North America. The announcement was made during the recent World Cargo Symposium held in Istanbul.
