US federal aviation authorities have cleared Midex Airlines to resume freight operations, ending a six-week suspension that caused a loss of more than Dh73.4 million (US$20 million) of revenues. The airline, which operates from Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain airports, said it would immediately resume flights carrying reconstruction and military material to Iraq and Afghanistan after being cleared on Wednesday. Midex is one of the largest air cargo operators in the Gulf region, with seven freighters based in the UAE and two more aircraft, B747s, scheduled to arrive in the next two months. The airline is part of the Paris-based Midex Group which operates in 32 countries.
