Traffic figures released for June 2021 by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) reveal that Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) saw cargo volume jump 11.5 percent year on year with 399,000 tonnes, whilst passenger traffic climbed more than 40 percent from June of last year, with flight movements up over 10 percent.
Cargo volume growth was mainly attributed to double-digit growth in both trans-shipments and imports, whilst exports increased by 8 percent year on year.
The airport says inbound and outbound cargo from Southeast Asia experienced the most significant increase during the month.
On the passenger side, traffic remained below the levels recorded in 2019, with traffic to and from China and Europe recording significant growth in for the month of June.
