Hong Kong-based forwarder U-Freight Group has added warehouse space at its headquarters in Amsterdam as it anticipates growth in its Dutch e-commerce logistics operations.
The new e-commerce fulfilment centre adds 684 square metres of warehouse space plus 124 square metres of office space and will enable U-Freight Holland to expand services, such as pick and pack for e-commerce, including shoes imported from the Far East.
Leading the team in Amsterdam is Robert Rens, who has been promoted to operations director. He will continue the work of current managing director in The Netherlands, Cas Scheij, who will remain in post on a part-time basis.
“E-commerce from the Far East and South East Asia is booming, so we need the extra space,” Rens noted.
The U-Freight Holland veteran, who has been with the company for almost 25 years, rose through the ranks from an admin role and eventually became export supervisor before being promoted to operations manager.
“Robert is an excellent choice. There really is no one who knows U-Freight Holland’s role in our customers’ supply chains as well as he does and I am sure he will be an excellent asset for the management team here in Schiphol,” Scheij said.
“Robert’s promotion comes at an exciting time for U-Freight in The Netherlands. We have opened a new warehouse for the company’s growing e-commerce logistics operations, in addition to our existing on-airport facility,” he added.
Alongside the Amsterdam office, which caters for airfreight, U-Freight Holland said it has a long-standing relationship with Independent Freight Service in Rotterdam, which operates under the U-Ocean brand, completing U-Freight’s portfolio of multimodal services.
