John Peyton Burnett comes from a long line of shipping and aviation professionals, who says he is “obsessed with indexing the air cargo market and other new products that can be developed as a result.” He is the founder and managing director of Hong Kong-based TAC Index, a leading provider of weekly pricing data for air freight specialists.
TAC Index was formed in 2012, started publishing in 2016 and gained market leader recognition in 2019. In early 2020, the company entered into a commercial branding agreement with the Baltic Exchange (100 percent owned by the Singapore Exchange).

Most of the time Peyton is immersed in accurate, timely, and independent reference price information for air cargo around the world, working with airlines, airports, shipping companies, forwarders and the finance industry.
Payload Asia reached out to Mr Burnett before the announcement of nominees to talk about the current state of the industry, and here’s what he had to say:
“After 4 years of air cargo capacity being squeezed due to strong demand in the market punctuated by a considerable reduction in capacity due to Covid-19 impacting passenger flights and belly hold capacity, demand for near real-time air freight data is stronger than ever.”
