AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC), part of Volga-Dnepr Group, is launching a new B747 freighter service from one of its European gateways at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Tokyo, Japan. Lufthansa Cargo has seen the toll of the collapsed cargo market leave a trail of red ink across the group’s Logistics Division with profits over the first three quarters crashing from a 2008 profit of €160 million to a 2009 loss of €200 million. DHL has announced a US$15 million investment in three Life Science Competence Centers to fulfill what it says is the growing demand for higher levels of quality compliance. Cargo & pax declines moderate further at HK
Cargo throughput in September at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) dropped 4.3 per cent year-onyear to 304,000 tonnes, while passenger throughput reached 3.5 million passenger trips in September 2009, 3.5 per cent below the same period in 2008.
