Malaysia’s national carrier Malaysia Airlines has successfully operated the country’s first flight on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Flight MH7979, operated by the airline’s A330-200 aircraft, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on 17 December. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has announced the appointment of Susan M. Baer, who has spent 21 years in a myriad of aviation department roles, as director of aviation. The first woman in Port Authority history to assume the job, she replaces William R. DeCota, who died unexpectedly in October. Aircraft financing company, GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) has announced the promotion of Norman C.T. Liu to president and chief executive officer. Liu will take over the executive management of the business from Henry A. Hubschman who will take on the new role of chairman of GECAS. Liu and Hubschman began their new roles in the third quarter this year. Liu is a 22-year veteran of GE Capital, including 14 years at GECAS. Cargo throughput in September at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) dropped 4.3 per cent year-onyear to 304,000 tonnes, while passenger throughput reached 3.5 million passenger trips in September 2009, 3.5 per cent below the same period in 2008. Air traffic movements recorded a decline of 8 per cent to 22,570. Declines in air traffic volumes have continued to narrow over the last three months, HKIA said.
